Well we got back from the Doctor at Children's Medical Center yesterday and still no diagnosis. She is not ruling out Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis but does not think that is what she has. Looking at her swollen fingers and her knee, the swelling is not in her joints. Her red blood cell count is high and her white blood cell count is low, which is not a correct scenario for JRA. She is looking more at PVNS. If it is PVNS we are possibly looking at it being in her knee, fingers, toes, top of her feet or ankles, and/or her hands. We will be looking at surgery for each joint affected and the synovial tissue will have to be removed. After that she will most likely be in some sort of physical therapy and will have an ongoing treatment of injections.
They can not diagnose her until we have the results back from her knee scope, we have a scheduled date for February 19. If the results come back negative for PVNS then she might have another type of arthritis and we will then be on some sort of medication. They will give her a steroid shot in her knee to make the swelling go away and she should be able to start walking soon after without any therapy.
Harper is now 20 months and even though she cannot walk she is in good spirits and does not seem to be in much pain. We will continue to treat her with Ibuprofen and try to keep the pain to a minimum. This is the hard part.... waiting another 6 more weeks.
I cannot say thanks enough for all your thoughts and prayers. I will keep everyone updated!
